An in loco visit is the most important official visit that the IACHR can make to analyze in depth the general human rights situation of a member state of the Organization of American States (OAS)
In response to the decision of Nicolas Maduro’s government to block the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) from carrying out its in loco visit to Venezuela today, Erika Guevara-Rosas, Americas director at Amnesty International, said:
“Time and again, Nicolás Maduro’s government has sought to evade international scrutiny and hide the graves human rights violations and crimes under international law being committed by the authorities under his command in Venezuela. By preventing the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights from boarding their flight and prohibiting them from entering the country, the Maduro government has once again demonstrated its disdain for justice and the human rights of the Venezuelan people.”
An in loco visit is the most important official visit that the IACHR can make to analyze in depth the general human rights situation of a member state of the Organization of American States (OAS). The IACHR delegation was unable to board their flight from Panama to Caracas after being banned by the Nicolás Maduro administration.
